There's a whirlwind of movement at the Chopra Jonas place in Encino. Many individuals are hurrying near, moving vehicles all through the carport, conveying boxes, and opening up dishes and crystal. Priyanka Chopra Jonas plunks down across a table from me in the tranquil game room first floor and chuckles: "I swear this is how things have been."Priyanka, which she prefers that I call her here, is readying for a party, gathering her family, in-laws, and Hollywood friends for the first major event at her home in the San Fernando Valley. The house itself is a major event, by the way: a 20,000-square-foot home with a two-lane bowling alley, an indoor basketball court, a movie theater, and an infinity swimming pool that gives way to a gorgeous view of the distant hills. The party will be a Diwali celebration as well as a housewarming. Priyanka and her husband of three years, Nick Jonas, bought the place for a reported $20 million at the end of 2019, just before the pandemic forced everyone inside. They spent their first six months together doing what some of us did in those early, unsteady days: eating pizza every night, watching movies at four in the morning, sleeping in. Since then, though, they’ve had to be largely apart, working in different parts of the world. “I want to be at home,” Priyanka tells me. “I’ve been away for almost a year now.” At the moment, her husband is occupied upstairs. “We both have a shoot today. So that’s the thing about this house—both him and I have had 20-year careers, and I think we finally built a home that accommodates our individual lives.”
Facilitating tomorrow evening's get-together will permit Priyanka to accomplish something she in all actuality does extremely well: cause individuals to feel appreciated. Large numbers of the companions and colleagues I converse with about her note her capacity to reassure anybody, and I feel it very quickly. Priyanka's wearing an easygoing plaid naval force shirtdress and shoes, her long hair actually sodden from the shower. Face to face, she is warm and enchanting, with a prepared chuckle and drawing in eyes. She moves from profound discussion to light messes easily. "She can appear to be so great and refined, which she positively is, but at the same time she has this lighthearted bliss about her and she simply oozes it," says her significant other. "She's an amazing host in like that. I'm all the more a saved individual from the start, and I open up with companions and individuals as I get to realize them better, yet she can cause you to feel like you are in the family and a piece of the inward circle immediately."Jada Pinkett Smith, who featured in The Grid Revivals with Priyanka, puts it along these lines: "She's simply a wad of light. She's entertaining and she's clever, and she simply appreciates life. It's attractive."
Behind that light and attraction, obviously, is a determined lady who has risen above what's recently been feasible for an Indian entertainer in Hollywood. Subsequent to becoming one of the greatest celebrities in India, Priyanka ventured out from home at the pinnacle of her Bollywood vocation and made, bit by bit, a profession in America that is arriving at new levels. Last year, she distributed her journal, Incomplete (presently a New York Times smash hit); sent off her hair-care line, Irregularity; raised huge number of dollars to help India during the pandemic; opened an Indian café in New York; and featured in the Framework continuation. Not long from now — with the romantic comedy Text for Yourself as well as Amazon's aggressive government operative series Bastion — Priyanka will at last be playing lead film jobs as she had in India. It's a second she has been working toward for a long time. She is a pariah who separated obstructions and constructed a spot for herself inside the walls of Hollywood. Presently she's determined to invite others in.
